Change? Yes, Please.

Imagine this. Imagine being “different” was always cherished instead of criticized or abhorred. Imagine instead of being judged for who you are, you are admired for your originality and true self. Imagine if your “weirdness” was instead “uniqueness” and your distinctive features and aspects were celebrated instead of depreciated. Would the world be different? Perhaps. Perhaps, in many and infinite ways. Perhaps, racism would diminish. People would appreciate and praise all races. Perhaps, sexuality would not be such a fearful question of many. Perhaps “coming out of the closet” would not be such a monumental task for many in the fear of being judged for being “different”. Perhaps, we would live in a world of tranquility and relaxation. The possibilities of a judge-free world are endless. And it’s not uncommon that people understand judging is wrong. So why is it that people still do it?

A major reason is change. A lot of people don’t appreciate, or even worse, despise change. These people are comfortable with their lives. Change is unnecessary, and thus, unwelcome. But, if we want to “change” the world for the better, why is it that people are constantly running away from possible greatness? Do we not realize that our differences should not be looked down upon, but instead cherished? Do we want everyone to be the same? No. Because sameness leads to nothing. No change. And no change is a stillness in life. No progress, no innovation, no creativity. Change is what will bring us to a better place. So please, act upon your words.

The next time you encounter someone with peculiar attire, do not be quick to judge. Analyze the effect you will have on that person. It may be making them upset, or many even no effect at all. Regardless, how is YOUR judgement going to help? Instead, accepting someone’s peculiar attire may help them. This is true for any situation. Whether it is one’s sexuality, appearance, or efforts. With good intention should come good fortune. Accept people, so they can accept themselves. That will bring change. This will bring the change to help the world.

  2. You’re so right about that. I recently had to face the painful truth, which is the fact that, if i can’t Love or accept certain people, for whatever reason, then i’m not there yet.
